Q&A about Success Planning

Who can participate in Success Planning? All students in a participating grade level at Pickett Academy and Jones Leadership Academy of Business will be given the opportunity to have a Success Coach. The program is designed to benefit every student, providing personalized support and guidance.

What is the role of a Success Coach? A Success Coach is a caring, adult mentor who meets with a student twice a month for the entire school year. They work together to set goals, track progress, and build a personalized plan for success. The coach's role is to empower the student, helping them build confidence and navigate challenges.

Are the coaches vetted? Yes, every Success Coach volunteer undergoes a thorough background check through Toledo Public Schools to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

How are students and coaches matched? We believe in building strong, supportive relationships. Students and coaches are carefully matched based on shared interests and personalities to create a meaningful connection that supports the student's personal and academic growth.

What is the time commitment for a coach? We ask coaches to commit to two meetings per month with their student for the entire school year. This consistent connection is key to building a strong and lasting mentoring relationship.

I am interested in being a Success Coach, can I volunteer? Yes! We would love for you to join us. Fill out the Success Coach Interest Form and one of our Success Planning team members will reach out to you soon.

Family Involvement

We believe that families are essential partners in the educational process. We encourage parent involvement through:

Open Communication: Regular updates and newsletters keep parents informed about classroom activities and events.

Family Events: We host workshops, family nights, and community celebrations to strengthen the connection between home and school.

Parent Workshops: Educational sessions for parents on topics such as child development, nutrition, and early literacy help support learning at home.

What is Success Planning?

Success Planning is an innovative coaching model designed to help students, families, and caring adults work together to set and achieve personalized goals. This forward-looking, relationship-based approach provides each student with a Success Coach—a caring mentor who helps them map out a path to success in school and in life.

The core of the program is a personalized plan that outlines a student's strengths and needs, connecting them to the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Success Planning goes beyond academic subjects to address all aspects of a child’s well-being, helping them build confidence, navigate challenges, and prepare for a bright future. It's not just about a single goal; it's a dynamic tool that adapts as a student grows, ensuring they are always seen, heard, and supported on their unique journey.
